The persistent identifier provided by the Research Organization Registry (ROR) helps to identify research organizations (incl. funding agencies) uniquely.
ROR makes it easy for anyone or any system to disambiguate institution names and connect research organizations to researchers and research outputs. ROR IDs are used in journal publishing systems, data repositories, and other research infrastructure components to distinguish institutional affiliations and to improve discovery and tracking of research outputs by institution.
ROR IDs are also used for the oa.finder and the Journal Checker Tool to distinguish publishing agreements by institution.
