Throughout November, we'll be offering board games, digital games, and collaborative jigsaws at various UB locations. Come by and play!
November is International Game Month in libraries around the world. To mark the occasion, we are offering analog and digital games at various UB locations. Most of the games are freely available and can be played independently at any time, some take place on specific dates.

Throughout November
Famous artworks in the video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons
We will visit the art museum in Animal Crossing: There will be a short lecture by art historian Susanna Blaser, a research exercise on the works and a quiz with prizes. Afterwards, there will be a gamers' get-together: You can bring your own Switch, play and sit together.

Here you can find board games from the Asian region, traditional and modern. Take them on a journey, test your language skills, plant a Zen garden, or experience the thrill of Hanafuda, Go, and Mahjongg.

Video game: Museum Island ぶんかつ島 tour in Animal Crossing
Japanese museums have created a museum island in the video game Animal Crossing, where you can see a lot of Japanese cultural heritage. Together with art historian Sabine Bradel, we'll take an online tour of the island and see the Japanese artworks.

Lecture&Card Game: "Let's Mummify!"
Together we will learn about the card game 即身仏になろう(sokushinbutsu ni narō, Eng. "Let's mummify"). Sokushinbutsu (即身仏) is a mummy created through a Buddhist practice of self-mummification. Lecturer Paulus Kaufmann will introduce the topic with a short lecture at 4 pm. (max. 15 persons, please register in advance)

Board Game: Creating a Japanese Zen Garden
The board game 枯山水 (Karesansui) is about making a Japanese Zen garden as beautiful as possible.

Immerse yourself in another world with virtual reality goggles, manipulate gravity, interactively learn about glacier melt or develop an emotional bond with a mouse. You can experience this and more with us in VR.

Play and do jigsaws on the topic of infrastructure and railroad construction - analog and digital at the UB Economics. There will be a small prize in the quiz.

Word games - games with words, terms and texts. We play "just one", "icon poet", "so kleever" and "taboo". Entertaining party games that require creativity and imagination. Our rating: especially valuable. You can bring your own word/text games. (in german)

Egyptologist Dr. Fabienne Haas Dantes leads us through a desert expedition in the video game "Assassin's Creed Origins". Get to know Ancient Egypt virtually!

Here you can find jigsaw puzzles with motifs from English literature. Give your mind a break by helping to assemble one of our literary jigsaws!

We have board and card games with a science background, not just for nerds! Together we will try to finish two jigsaw puzzles this month.
