27 June: Exhibition & symposium on 100 years of quantum physics

Join us on Friday, 27 June for our public symposium on quantum physics at the Irchel campus – followed by an aperitif and vernissage. The exhibition will run until the end of August.
To celebrate 100 years of quantum mechanics, the University Library Sciences is presenting an exhibition highlighting the groundbreaking developments in quantum mechanics and the significant contributions made in Zurich in the 1920s. Interactive elements and historical exhibits at the ‘Quantum Century Exhibition’ vividly demonstrate how these theories revolutionised our understanding of reality and continue to drive technical innovations today.
To kick off the exhibition, we are inviting you to a public symposium with talks that describe the past, present and future of quantum physics and its philosophical foundations in an understandable way.
Leading scientists will explain,
- how they use one of the most successful theories we know for their daily work;
- how the second quantum revolution will impact our lives with radically new technology;
- and why we still struggle to understand how quantum mechanics works.
Symposium programme
- Historical aspects: Domenico Giulini, Leibnitz University Hannover
- Interpretation: Renato Renner, ETH Zurich
- Experiments: Wenchao Xu, ETH Zurich
- Applications: Andreas Fuhrer, IBM Rüschlikon
The lectures will be held in English. This will be followed by an aperitif and the vernissage of the ‘Quantum Century Exhibition’.
When: Friday, 27 June 2025, 4 – 6 pm
Where: University of Zurich, Irchel Campus, Lecture Hall Y15-G20
